Dissapointed with volume bug

Bought this software after reading posiitve reviews. However it is currently broken, and super annoying. Using Itunes 11, and mountain lion, on my Retina Macbook Pro adjusting volume with my B&W p5s while bitperfect is enabled results in headphone audio balance being moved to the left. Spent hours trying to fix, only to discover that it requires disabling bit perfect, fixing balance( which appears centered while bitperfect is running), and reenabling bitperfect. Seems that system volume cannot be reliably adjusted when bitperfect is running. Will see if problem occurs with my fiio e10 when it arrives next week and update accordingly. Update - Worls fine with my external DAC. Considering that software is aimed at poeple with exteranl DACs I have changed rating from 2 to 3 stars.

Great!!!

Im very much enjoying this app. The audio quality running through my tube gear is greatly enhanced. I only wish Bitperfect was available for iPad also...

Hard to figure out

Just purchased your product. It has no instructions or help menus. It wont let my itunes play over my airport express network to my stereo. All I get is a weak sound coming out of my MAc. Before I give up and return the product perhaps you could assist. My questions include: how do I get the program to let me send the sound where I want it (right now it wont let iTunes send music to my aiport expresses) is it best to leave sounds adjustment at your defaults or to tinker? I dont know what effect any of your options provide (e.g. upsampling, linear/non linear, gapless versus non gapless etc) - and ther is no explanation When itunes window is displayed your icon disappears - do I have to close itunes each time to find your icon? I have had to repeately go to Spotlight to fid the program. What exactly is the program doing that is suppose to improve sound quality? I have send a request for assistance. Still no reply. Disappointed.

simplest way to push iTunes through an external DAC

Simple menubar app works well with my DacMagic Plus over USB. I wouldnt mind an option to disable upsampling to compare against my DACs native upsampling. Nice way to funnel iTunes to my Rotel amplifier while leaving other mac audio and sound effects to my desktop speakers. On an unrelated note, Apple why did you remove integer mode in 10.7 - bring it back! Update for 10.9 - Bitperfect working fine, and Integer mode is back in the OS. I found the Do Not Upsample setting too, which is nice. I am leaning towards Audirvana+ now as my FLAC collection grows and its integration with iTunes using proxy files, but the Bitperfect price and simplicity really is the best overally value out there for people with a DAC and who just want basic/obvious functionality without the hassle of using Audio Midi Setup (which cannot send ONLY iTunes output to the DAC!)

what does it do?

itunes own equalizer and enhance feature is enough to make music sound good …. bitperfect does nothing at all , in fact i prefer it disabled and using itunes features only …waste of money 100%

Really, really, sweet

I was hesitant after reading reviews abut 1.x on some audiophile sites. Read some good stuff on a forum today and decided to take the dip (instead of the “plunge” it’s more expensive competition asks for). I have a really nice separates audio system at home and, wow, it’s nice to hear how music can open up even on my iMac through detailed earbuds (Etymotic HF3). Just buy it and check their manual for best settings. You’ll be rewarded with naturally-presented detail and sweet imaging. All in the background. You won’t regret it!

Shockingly good

I purchased this not expecting to hear much difference, but I was actually shocked at how better everything sounded. I have a lot of high-resolution audio files and external DACs, and I now know that I wasn’t hearing nearly as much fidelity in the reproduction as I should have been. I’ve tried this app on 2 different setups and my expectations have been exceeded on each. I can’t recommend this enough, particularly given the price, which in the audiophile world is a true bargain. Bravo!

BitPerfect a real +

I couldn’t have connection between my Marantz SA8005 CD reader/DAC and my MacBook Pro, when I connected on USB/DAC, I was getting the following message: UNSUPPORTED even if no driver are necessary for OX systems. So I found this iTune plugin which I decided to buy in order to increase the quality of my music. This made my DAC able to read my files in MacBook pro and also increased the clarity of each and every littles notes of my classical music. I strongly recommend this product to anyone who has an Apple device and wish to get an audiophile quality music. Louis111

Does what it says

I found CD’s ripped to ALAC files in iTunes lacking warmth and acoustical space compared to the same CD played on my CD player (Music Hall). As soon as I used bit perfect, what I had been missing was back, and the sound was on par with my CD player. I’d recommend this to any audiophile who wants to use iTunes as their player. I wasn’t a fan of iTunes coming from Windows, but nothing else for Mac really compares in my experience.

Doesn’t work with AirPlay

No matter what I tried, couldn’t get this to work with AirPlay. Basically makes the app useless to me. The end.

Good idea but too many bugs to be useful

I tried running under OS 10.11.2 and I can’t get it to work properly. If I start BitPerfect first and then iTunes and try to play a song, it stops after 3 seconds. I can restart the song but it only play 3 seconds. If I disable BitPerfect it works fine. If I enable it again it works but that is too much of a pain to disable and enable it every time I want to listen to music. AirPlay doesn’t work either.

Amazing Performance - Terrific Bargain!

Still (by far) the best bargain in MAC based computer audio. Excellent sound, performance and support. Handles a mix of files with differing bitrates easily while allowing many options for up-conversion of lower bit rate files. I have 16 and 24 bit files, spanning 256 kbps to 16,934 kbps (sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 384 kHz) in AAC, ALC and AIFF forrmats. I allow the highest bit rate files to play in their native resolution, smaller files are upconverted (at my choice) in factors of 2x up to the max my DAC can handle. Very easy to use and configure and an absolute bargain! I have paid many times the price for similar apps that are cumbersome to use, more intrusive and have poorer sound. Highly recommended for all MAC users with external USB audio DAC’s. Bitperfect will also play DSD files with ease!

High Quality iTunes

If you’re lazy like me and want to use iTunes to both organize and listen to music, and you care about audio quality, Bit Perfect makes a huge difference. Probably only noticable for people who have an external DAC. Easy to install, easy to use, an all around great app.

Fixed all my problems

I had problems with the previous version - it wouldn’t switch properly when playing old DRM protected files from Japanese iTunes Store and caused all sorts of problems when switching on and off automatically. I’ve contacted the author about my problems and it seems the long-awaited patch has finally arrived. All my files play properly now and the App switches seamlessly between playmodes, as advertised. I’m very satisfied.

Very bad

Once you plug your headphones, the app confuses everything. All other sounds came out of embedded speakers so you end up disturbing people while you dont even notice because of headphones. A few times going between itunes and normal audio even messes up everything and you end up with no sound at all!! Unless you are a big fan of restarts stay away!

No need

Compare the others, before you buy.
